5 Keys to Successful Lead-gen Sites

Today I received an email from a customer.  After he paid us some very nice compliments 🙂 he asked if I would share some insight with him on being successful with our LeadGenSiteProfits.com membership site he just joined.

I responded with the follow 5 Success Factors.  I thought you could benefit by reading them too.

Here’s what I told him…

Here are a few tips that might help:

  1. Be sure to use a keyword rich domain and NOT a sub-domain.  Ex., yourcitymovingcompany.com or yourcitymovingcompanysite.com.
  2. Do your best to get your lead-gen sites ranked on page 1 of Google for your local keyword(s).  Its WAY easier to sell or rent that way.  One of the easiest and best ways to do that is to post blog comments on high ranking (4 or higher) blog pages.  I will be coming out with more information on this soon.
  3. Sell your prospects on the HUGE value of the report and how you can turn that into a printed “book”/report that they can hand out to people when they network, etc.
  4. Emphasize that the lead-gen site is a compliment/supplement to their current website and should be considered a “business asset” and not the end-all, be-all to their marketing efforts.
  5. Finally, don’t be limited by your own imagination and don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself.  These sites – usually – do not sell or rent overnight.  Some of them take a little time depending on the market you live in and other factors of course.

George, the key is backlinks.

Yes, I agree with all 5. It is important to make sure they understand that this is a support site to their main site and can be optimized for specific keywords and focused backlinks

When you rent a site how do you determine the price? Do you base it based of # of searches and the average lifetime value of the customer of the industry?

Do you do it using some sort of click distribution statistic based on the ranking within the 1st page? And also, do you attempt to sell or rent a site that is not yet raked in the 1st page?

You can do this in one of several different ways. The key is to keep it simple. Why complicate it by using some “click distribution statistic”? Remember, a confused mind is one that won’t make a decision to buy. Keep it simple for you and the client and then you can work faster and for larger profits.

Personally, I do not sell individual leads. Its just not my style. A lot of consultants do and do very well. I don’t. I prefer to rent or sell the sites (plus hosting usually). I do NOT use a sophisticated pricing model either. However, the pricing does depend on several things… the city your in, the competition, the industry of your target customer, the lifetime value of their customers, the relationship you have with the prospect, plus more.

The value of these lead-gen sites is very huge! The bottom line is don’t shortchange yourself. Whatever price you want to start offering these sites at, double it and then get after it! Too many consultants offer their products and services for too cheap. Personally, I never go less than $497 no matter the situation. The report/ebook, articles and site itself is worth twice that! Consultants that sell/rent them for less than that are leaving money on the table.
